Take this class to learn what a MIG welding machine is and how to use one. This great intro class will cover basic techniques for MIG welding, through demonstration and hands on experience. We will also discuss welding safety, and some basics about what MIG welding is and how it is applied in industry.  Each student will have a chance to make a small project as part of the class, to learn a little more about the basic use of the MIG welder.



Class Structure

-Welding Safety Overview.
-Explanation of components and adjustments of a Lincoln or Hobart 180 MIG welder.
-Demonstration of a proper weld puddle, then practice session.
-Demonstration of welding two pieces of steel together, then practice session.

This class has a $10 materials fee built into the price.


How to Prepare

Wear 100% cotton pants (jeans) and a long sleeve 100% cotton shirt. Closed toe shoes, leather boots are ideal. Don’t wear anything that you don’t mind getting dirty and possibly burnt. Bring safety glasses,leather gloves, welding helmet and welding jacket if you have them.


What will you get out of this class?

Students will finish the class with an understanding of the components, adjustments of a MIG welder and experience welding mild steel. Upon completion of the class students will also be prepared to attend the Metal Fabrication Labs, which will give students an opportunity to work on their own metal fabrication projects.


About the Instructor


My name is Kenny.  I am a certified welder in both plat and pipe welding as well as working on my AS in welding technologies at Sierra College. I currently am work at Harris and Bruno International as a CNC Programmer and Operator.  I am proficient in a diverse range of welding processes including GMAW, GTAW, SMAW, and gas welding.  In my free time I enjoy camping and hiking.
